The Ramblers Association

THE RAMBLERS ASSOCIATION IS THE LARGEST REPRESENTATIVE BODY OF WALKERS IN GREAT BRITAIN.

With 131,000 members and nearly seventy years experience of promoting walking and the interests of walkers.
The Association is recognised as a much respected source of expertise. It seeks to have illegal obstructions on rights of way removed and, where necessary, prosecutes offenders. It urges farmers to obey the law on ploughing and rights of way and calls upon local authorities and the government to ensure that these and other laws are respected.
Thanks to Ramblers' volunteers, thousands of miles of paths are opened up and kept open for the public to enjoy. Members go quietly about their work reporting path problems, surveying, clearing and waymarking paths and sometimes repairing footbridges and stiles.
At local level, voluntary footpath secretaries oppose public path closures and diversions if they are not in the public interest.

Also the network of local groups gives the Association a presence throughout the country. Members can take part in organised walks and walking festivals or get involved in conservation work.
The local group for this are is WALTHAM GROUP. We produce a programme of walks that cover our
local area as well as walks a little further afield. We mostly walk on Sundays and Wednesdays plus evenings in the summer. The routes vary in distance from 4 to 12 miles using public rights of way - quiet secluded footpaths or paths with wide open country views.
You will find us a friendly group and no speciaised or expensive gear is necessary just stout shoes boots or wellingtons in wet weather, protective clothing and an interest in the countryside. So, why not come along and join us?
After all, what better way is there to get to know your own area than to walk in the local countryside?
