The Under 11 (A) squad had a tremendous first
half of the season, but have been very disappointing since Christmas,
though they still maintain a healthy league position. The Under 11 (B) squad continue to enjoy their games if not the results, but it is always a pleasure to see them play. Of the mini soccer teams, the Under 10 Red and Blue squads continue to develop and show improvements on last season's results. The Green squad that only plays friendly games, lost 4-2 to the Blue squad in the month, drew 1-1 at Crofton Saints and had a tremendous 1-0 victory at local rivals Waltham Wolves. Outstanding performances came from Dan, Adam, Lynden and Tom. Both Under 9 squads are still playing games and continue to provide pleasure to the large number of parents who support both teams. The Under 8's played two games, losing heavily against Spartan Colts, but achieving a very creditable 3-3 draw with Lee Rangers, two goals from Molly Dineen being their highlight. The Under 7 and Under 6 Soccer School continue to train on a Saturday morning in preparation for future seasons, with a great amount of enthusiasm and effort on display. May and June is being filled with various small sided tournaments that are taking place all over the county. All club managers have been encouraged to take part in at least two competitions to enable members to stay together while other club activities are organised. Off the field, preparations are well in hand for the best football day of the year. May 16th sees the club's Soccer Festival, when 5-a-side competitions are organised for all members. It is hoped that we. can organise at least two teams of girls to play during the tournament. The ever popular penalty competitions will also take place on this day. A 'kick start' programme has been agreed in conjunction with the Hampshire FA girls football development officer and Winchester City Council's Community Services department. |
This will see the club professionally
supported in its attempts to organise girls' football with the objective
of entering teams into local leagues next season. Angela Emery has
volunteered to coach the girls and has already started on Sunday
afternoons. The club was also pleased when Laura Hoff qualified as a
referee and is now able to officiate at all games below Under 15 level. The Annual Presentation Evening takes place at the Jubilee Hall on Friday, June 25th, and ALL club members will receive a trophy. Other individual awards will also take place at this event. The Annual General Meeting takes place at the club's headquarters, the Hoe, Road pavilion, on Thursday, June 10th, commencing at 8.00pm. If you have any comments on the way the club is organised, good or bad, please come along. You will not be pressured into joining the committee but if you are interested, you will be very welcome; a club of over 200 members needs all the help it can get. Preparations are now taking place regarding teams for next season and several managers and coaches are desperately required. Current plans include:
If you are interested in managing / coaching, please approach any member of the club's committee or contact the club chairman. |
